Anise seed essential oil is cheering, mildly euphoric, sense enhancing. Blends well with: Lavender, rose, orange, pine.

Anise Essential Oil possesses the distinctive aroma of black licorice. Although you may not be a fan of black licorice, a single drop or two of Anise Seed Essential Oil can dramatically enhance an otherwise dull blend. It can be useful in diffuser and inhaler blends intended to help ease bronchitis, colds and the flu.

Emotionally, Anise Oil can be calming when used in very small dilutions.

Anise and Star Anise Essential Oils are often grouped together and sometimes are confused with each other as both possess a similar aroma and have similar, but not completely identical properties.

As a natural pesticide: Using neem derivatives for managing pests is a non-violent approach to controlling pests. Neem products work by intervening at several stages of the insect's life. They may not kill the pest instantaneously but incapacitate it in several ways. Neem very subtly employs effects such as repellence, feeding and ovipositional deterrence, growth inhibition, mating disruption, chemo-sterilization, etc..
 

Extracts from neem have shown incredible success with not only battling fungus problems but also many forms of root rot. Neem biodegrades in a matter of weeks when exposed to the sunlight. Pure Neem oil will retain its potency much longer if stored in a cool place away from strong light. Here are some tips on using Neem oil:

(1) Don't mix any more than you need.
(2) Add water and a little Ivory Dish Soap to the plant before spraying.
(3) Spray the complete plant including the potting media.
(4) Mix 1 oz. in 1 gallon of water.

For Maintenance 1 teaspoon per gallon of water

I highly recommend this for eco friendly gardening.

Some companies claim that for best results, I should use essential oils on my skin at full strength . Others claim I should never use essential oils on my skin at full strength. Which is it?

The mis-use of any substance can lead to injury, and essential oils are no exception. Essential oils are powerful in scent and action and must be treated with respect for aromatherapy and other uses. 

Never Put Undiluted Essential Oils On Your Skin. 

Essential oils are concentrated liquids and are very powerful substances. They should not be consumed internally without education from a qualified educator or without personal counsel from a trained aromatherapist.   

Treat Essential Oils with Respect

The following list includes basic guidelines to promote safety in the use of essential oils:

- Keep all essential oil bottles out of the reach of children and animals.

- Do not use on children or animals.

- Do not apply to the body undiluted.

- Do not take internally.

- Do not use if pregnant: consult with a certified health professional with knowledge of essential oils.

- Do not use a particular essential oil if you've had a previous adverse reaction to it.

Treat essential oils with the same care that you treat medicines. You don't need to be afraid or avoid essential oils and I'm certainly not trying to scare anyone out of enjoying all the benefits that aromatherapy offers. They can be an amazing blessing within a holistic lifestyle. Do remember, however, that when working with essential oils, less is more.

Here are two rules to follow:

    Do not ingest essential oils. They are concentrated and very potent. In large amounts, they can attack the delicate linings of your stomach, esophagus, and throat. You can even poison yourself by taking essential oils by mouth.

Why is aromatherapy gaining so much press and exposure now if it's been in practice for thousands of years?

Society today is more health conscious and is now more receptive to natural alternative health modalities including aromatherapy. The media, although often inaccurately, has been actively covering the trends in increased health awareness and alternative medicine. The media has made a point to include the aromatherapy "buzzword."

The Internet has made it easier for individuals to access and share aromatherapy information. The ability to network and purchase essential oils online has had a positive effect on the growth of aromatherapy and aromatherapy businesses.

Lifestyles of today are now more hectic and stressful. Since aromatherapy can assist in reducing the symptoms of stress and help one energize or relax, society is taking notice. If you go to stores that sell any kind of candles, bath or beauty products, you'll most likely see products labeled with the word "aromatherapy." 

In my personal experience, most times I see the word "aromatherapy" on products not sold by  retailers, the word is used incorrectly. So, the surge in awareness of aromatherapy is both positive and negative. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about aromatherapy and mislabeled products around.

To be an aromatherapy product and to have therapeutic value, the should be now chemicals and must contain only a pure essential oil.

Dispensed by weight. Grapeseed Oil ( Vitis vinifera ) is an ecologically sound product that is made from the seeds of grapes after the wine is pressed. Grapeseed oil is high in vitamin E and contains essential fatty acid and linoleic acid (also known as Omega 6).

It is low in saturated fat, contains natural chlorophyll and valuable antioxidants (known as proanthocyninidins) and has a good shelf life. This oil is very rich in vitamins and minerals. It's a light and penetrating oil for massage and is also used to create lotions, balms, creams and soap.       
The skin absorbs grapeseed oil easily; it has no perceptible odor. Since it is slightly astringent, it tightens and tones the skin; will not aggravate acne.

Is there any actual "science" behind the use of essential oils?

An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants. Essential oils are also known as volatile oils, ethereal oils or aetherolea, or simply as the "oil of" the plant from which they were extracted, such as oil of clove. An oil is "essential" in the sense that it carries a distinctive scent, or essence, of the plant. Essential oils do not form a distinctive category for any medical, pharmacological, or culinary purpose.

    Various essential oils have been used medicinally at different periods in history. Medical applications proposed by those who sell medicinal oils range from skin treatments to remedies for cancer, and often are based solely on historical accounts of use of essential oils for these purposes. Claims for the efficacy of medical treatments and treatment of cancers in particular, are now subject to regulation in most countries.
